Nurse facing charges after blowing the whistle

Stretching all manner of logic and legal reasoning, Anne Mitchell, a nurse in West Texas, is facing felony charges for "misuse of official information" for reporting a bad doctor to the state medical board. She faces 10 years in prison if convicted. The charges were shepherded by the local sheriff, a patient of the doctor's and picked up by a prosecutor who seems to think there are no limits to his powers. They claim Mitchell has a history of making "inflammatory" statements about the doctor and reported him in bad faith -- despite that the complaints she made were founded and that the doctor came to Texas with a restriction on his license for, well, being a bad doctor somewhere else. Her lawyers have already filed a lawsuit for malicious prosecution.

Only in Texas?
